On Saturday, in the midsts of a snowstorm, an unfortunate incident occured on the city sidewalk outside of Marianna Ristorante in which an Asian man was called a racial slur by a caucasian woman. The two parties were not dining at the restaurant and not affiliated with Mariana's in any way. This situation escalated into a verbal altercation and the Renton Police were called. Concerned for safety and wellbeing of our staff and customers, Management attempted to intervene and help de-escalate the situation.
By now, many have seen a video circulating that shows a glimpse of the incident after our intervention. Due to this publicity, we have received numerous comments and reviews on our social media accounts accusing us of being racist and unsupportive of people of color, especially to the Asian community.
This is hurting our business, our hardworking staff, our loyal customers, and completely heartbreaking to be villainized as something we are not.
We are just a minority-owned small business trying to get by during a pandemic. Our doors are open to everyone, no matter race, gender, or sexual orientation. The actions of one random person on the sidewalk in front of our storefront does not reflect on our values.
